Dog and Panther

Dog and Panther - The making of Giant Hands

If you are into Ben Gibbard/Death Cab For Cutie/The Postal Service, then you have to check out this video by Dog and Panther. It shows the creative trials and triumphs while recording and producing thier song "Giant Hands". I suggest watching the video as a whole but if you are short for time then the song starts about 6 mins in. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did/do.

Noah& The Whale: Album release

Noah & The Whale are set to release their album "Last Night on Earth" on March 7th 2011.

According to the bands website the album is:

"the story of last night on earth. Ten tracks to tell one, many and countless tales. Ten tracks that look through the pane, beyond reflection, into the night dark and the lives burning brightly within it. It may be their last night on earth. It may just feel that way,"

It doesn't really give much away, but you kind of know what it means. And, if the single 'L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N' is anything to go by, then the rest of this album will be nothing short of amazing.

I for one am pre-ordering this. Be sure to check back around March 8th/9th when I will have surely listened to it 1000 times and posted a review.

White Lies: Ritual

January 2009 saw the explosive release of White Lies' debut album "To lose my life". Two years later and the trio have just relased their second album, "Ritual"

Personally I think this is a great album and enjoy how you can see the bands influences though out; Depeche Mode, OMD, Joy Devison, Human League and peers such as Editors.

One of my favourite tracks on the record is Streetlights, the synth and bass echo the sound of early Gary Numan; also not to forget the awesome first single "Bigger than us"

Hopefully the bands success will continue to grow with this great album and in two years time or less, I will be writing about another release.

Definitely an album for the collection.

Angus: Voll Cool!

I know my posts are normally music related, but I am taking a moment to write about one of my favourite films of all time.

It is about Angus; an overweight, geeky outcast and his efforts to win the girl after being elected the schools winter ball King as a joke.

I don't think anything I type will do this film justice because without actually showing you the feature its hard to convey what it is that makes it so good. The story is perfect and one that almost anyone can relate to, instantly making you like the characters - and hate some. Not only is it a great film but it is played to an awesome soundtrack, as listed below:

Green Day - JAR
Ash - Jack Names The Planets
Dance Hall Crashers - Enough
Ash - Kung Fu
The Riverdales - Back To You
Smoking Popes - Mrs. You And Me
Weezer - You Gave Your Love To Me Softly
Goo Goo Dolls - Ain't That Unusual
Muffs - Funny Face
Tilt - White Homes
Pansy Division - Deep Water
Love Spit Love - Am I Wrong

This really is a film you should check out. Sadly, unless you track down a copy from Germany, "Angus: Voll Cool",  chances are you wont get to see it. That's the saddest part of this tragedy.

Possibly the best birthday present ever?

On the 17th of December 2010 I turned 21 and before going out with my girlfriend and friends, my parents came around to my apartment with some birthday presents. I opened a large box they presented me with to find a nice bag, my favourite film (to be mentioned in another post), some money for some clothes and then an envelope.

Opening the envelope I found 2 Cd's by (We Are) Performance, along with some band art and badges. Now this was cool enough on its own, especially because they are one of my favourite groups. But when I opened the 1st self titled album, of which only a few thousand copies were made, I saw a hand written message from the band wishing me a happy 21st!

This gift was made even more special the other day as it was placed at number 2 in NME's list of 100 albums you haven't heard of but should have. Not only have I heard it, I can also say I have it signed wishing me a happy birthday.

Carlsberg don't do birthday presents because they cant compete with my Dad.
