Dutch Uncles: Single Release

Today Manchester's Dutch Uncles release their single "Face In" ahead of their album "Cadenza" due to be released April 25th.

Its great to see this band going places because they truly deserve it. Way ahead of their time, the rest of the UK is finally catching up with their Indie-Pop style, cultivated by the band over 3 years ago. Only now is their material relevant for mass acceptance. Hopefully their time in the spotlight will not be a fleeting moment as I, and I'm sure you too, look forward to hearing more in years to come.

Pulled Apart By Horses

High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive - Pulled Apart By Horses

Some how this band have escaped my attention till this week, when my best friend Chris told me to check them out. I think they're awesome; kind of like Ghost of a Thousand and The Vampire Weekend got together and had a weird offspring.

The Low Anthem: Smart Flesh

Today we see the release of "Smart Flesh" by 'The Low Anthem', follow up to their critically-lauded debut "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin".

The album was mainly recorded in an empty pasta sauce factory in Central Falls, Rhode Island along with some further tracking in a former reptile breeder's garage which the band dubbed 'the gator pit'.
“We knew right away when we stepped into the factory that the space was really the main instrument for the whole record” says Miller. “The resonance was chilling. We were able to experiment with new recording techniques to capture the sound at different distances. Mics 100-200 feet away caught the sound barrelling across the room.” The Low Anthem are fascinated with tone and timbre.

Since the release of “Oh My God, Charlie Darwin”, The Low Anthem have headlined Shepherd’s Bush Empire and played shows with artists such as Iron and Wine, The National and Emmylou Harris. They’ve made TV appearances on both Later with Jools Holland and David Letterman and in June won MOJO Magazine’s Breakthrough Award. No doubt the Providence 4 piece will have just as much success with this album too.

“Smart Flesh” is released today (21st February) on Bella Union records in the UK/Europe, and on Nonesuch records in the US.

OH LAND

Whilst looking through music videos I came across Danish singer Oh Land.

I particularly like this track as it reminds me of Vampire Weekend, or Vampire Weekend remind me of Oh Land. Either way its fantastic and I look forward to finding and listening to more of her music.

Just thought it would be good to share; feel free to comment your opinion on the song in the comments box below.

Treefight For Sunlight

Today, Denmarks 'Treefight For Sunlight' release their self titled debut album under Bella Union (Fleet Foxes, Midlake, Laura Viers)

If you havent heard TFS yet, think the Dutch Uncles, MGMT and Panda Bear. If thats your kind of music then you will surely also appreciate Treefight For Sunlight with their layered and absorbing imagery.

Featuring the perfectly-indie-pop track 'Facing The Sun' this album is surely one to check out.

The Wombats - Jump Into the Fog

The Wombats - Jump Into the Fog

My Girlfriend asked me to post this video online. She's right in saying its a great comeback for the Liverpudlian trio who seemed to disappear after their success in 2008.

The single is taken from their forth-coming album, "This Modern Glitch" due to be released on the 11th April this year.

They are also on tour from March, although if you want tickets I would act fast!

The Joy Formidable

The Joy Formidable - Austere (The Sarm Sessions)

Check out this video of Austere by The Joy Formidable. I particularly like how the song crescendos, growing in speed and power and then stops to leave behind a cinematic synth melody. Tipped to be one of the big acts this year, expect to hear more.

If you like this I also suggest you take a look at We Are Performance.

Cage The Elephant: Shake me down

Cage The Elephant - Shake Me Down

I am currently addicted to the above single. It is taken from Cage The Elephants latest record 'Thank you happy birthday'

It reminds me of the Pixies.
